Everything NeXT!
Here will be my page of all sorts of different NeXTSTEP-related stuff...
Hopefully one day, I'll have a mirror of numerous NeXT sites I have run into,
and have a fairly complete page (believe me, I've got over 500 pix to use!).
Also, this page will also contain information about Window Maker, WINGs, and
GNUstep, as they are all closely related to NeXTSTEP! Eventually, I'll put up
screenshots and source code of my version of WingMan Addressbook (a UI hack of
the original one). Also, I'm in the planning stages on developing a major hack
of WingMan Addressbook into a Mp3Database frontend currently code-named "Cactus"
(don't ask, it's a long story!).
Addressbook.app (A WingMan hack)
Here is the different UI I've played
around with for the WingMan Addressbook by Robert Lillack
(rob at lillack.de). WingMan is a simple
address book program that is basically a UI to a MySQL database of addresses,
names, and other contact info. For such a tiny app, it's the perfect addition
to your WorkSpace!
As you can see from the screenshots on the official page, I've changed some
things quite a bit. I would like to also add an Info button and possibly a
NeXT-style
menu to the app, but I've only begun learning WINGs, so that may be a while.
Maybe one day, there could even be a way to start up an e-mail composition to a
specified recipient in Aileron from the main window! Nothing like a desktop
becoming more and more integrated (yet still separate, unlike Windoze!).
Unfortunately (to my knowledge) you can't yet click on the flaps to move
forward / backward through the database, but believe me... once it's possible
with WINGs, I'll be popping that baby in there! : ^ )
Click on any of the images for a
full-size view!
As you may
also notice, the "down arrow" button that expands the list (compare the
screenshot on the left to the one on the right) is somewhat covered by the
"notepad." Yes, I know that and it will be fixed as soon as I figure out what
I want to do with it! : ^ ) The icon to the left of this paragraph is what
I've been using as the AppIcon, at least until the author (or anyone else) comes
up with a nice AppIcon for WingMan!
Again, I would like to emphasize I am not the original author of WingMan, his
page is listed below! I'm just a person who wants a very nice looking desktop,
and hacks some source code here and there. (Not to say the original was ugly
by any means! I just felt this look was a bit more "authentic" to a NeXT
environment.)
